Black Plaque Project
Back

The African presence in Britain has been on record since before the time of the Romans. Yet most people would be hard pressed to name a person of African, Asian, Caribbean or any minority ethnic background in Britain before WWII.

British History tends to be viewed through the lens of colonialism, and the achievements of these communities have largely gone unnoticed for a large period of time. Up until the establishment of Nubian Jak community Trust, only 1.6% of blue plaques in London reflected the achievements of the Black community.

The Black Plaque Project aims to champion these heroes, in the hope that we can gain support from our wider community to turning their black plaques blue.
